A β-Lactamase inhibitor is a chemical compound that prevents bacterial degradation of β-lactam (beta-lactam) antibiotics. Beta-lactamases are a family of enzymes which create bacterial resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics by degrading the drugs' beta-lactam rings, rendering them ineffective.
