The 1991 Atlantic hurricane season was a below-average Atlantic hurricane season due to higher than usual wind shear across the Atlantic Ocean, which effectively stifled tropical cyclogenesis in the Main Development Region. There were 12 tropical cyclones this season, 8 of which became named storms.
