2002 Atlantic hurricane season

The 2002 Atlantic hurricane season featured a then-record eight named storms forming in September. It was a near-average Atlantic hurricane season, producing fourteen tropical cyclones, of which twelve developed into named storms; four became hurricanes, and two attained major hurricane status.
