In 2014, a series of cross-strait meetings was held between Zhang Zhijun, director of the Chinese government's Taiwan Affairs Office, and Wang Yu-chi, director of Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council. The first meeting took place in Nanjing on 11 February 2014 when Wang visited mainland China, the first official contact between the two governments across the Taiwan Strait after the end of Chinese Civil War in 1949.
