2017 Northern India riots

On 25 August 2017, widespread rioting in northern India broke out after Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the religious leader of Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS), was convicted of rape. The riots began in Panchkula and later spread to other parts of the northern Indian territories of Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and the capital, New Delhi.
