The Acadians (French: Acadiens, European French: [akadjɛ̃], Acadian French: [akad͡zjɛ̃]) are an ethnic group descended from the French who settled in the New France colony of Acadia during the 17th and 18th centuries. Acadian culture first emerged in and around Port-Royal (present-day Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia), which served as the principal settlement and administrative centre during much of Acadia's early history.
