Anti-American sentiment in China
Anti-Americanism in China began with a general disdain for foreigners in the early 19th century amid a background of a declining Qing Dynasty and exploitation by Western powers, culminating in the Boxer Rebellion of 1900. The 1905 Chinese boycott of American goods to protest discrimination against the Chinese living in America also had a significant negative impact on Chinese attitudes.
