Assad family's cult of personality

During much of Ba'athist Syria, the ruling Assad family created a cult of personality around the family, first around Hafez al-Assad, the leader of Syria from 1970 to 2000, then following Hafez's death, around his son and successor Bashar al-Assad. This cult developed to incredible proportions, involving numerous portraits, frescoes, images on money and statues, with the Assad family visible everywhere.
