Asunción (English: , Spanish: [asunˈsjon] ; Guarani: Paraguay) is the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. The city lies on the eastern bank of the Paraguay River, immediately north northeast of the confluence where it is joined by the Pilcomayo River.
