Autism in popular culture

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder currently defined in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the eleventh edition of the International Classification of Diseases. As with many neurodivergent people and conditions, the popular image of autistic people and autism itself is often based on inaccurate media representations.
