Call to the bar

The call to the bar is a legal term of art in most common law jurisdictions where people must be qualified before being allowed to argue in court on behalf of another party; if they are so qualified, it is said that they have been "called to the bar" or to have received "call to the bar". Such common law jurisdictions include England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland, most other jurisdictions in the Commonwealth of Nations, as well as Hong Kong, wherein the specific structures and practices associated with a call to the bar vary.
