Cambodia–China relations

The bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People's Republic of China have been marked by close economic, political and security cooperation. The first contacts between China and the Khmer Empire occurred in the Tang period in the 9th century after it was unified in 802 AD by Jayavarman II. Cambodia maintained relations with the Ming dynasty during the final years of the Khmer Empire when Ponhea Yat dispatched a minister to establish formal diplomatic ties.
