The Chaoui people or Shawiya (Tachawit: Išawiyen / ⵉⵛⴰⵡⵉⵢⵏ, Arabic: الشاوية) are a Berber ethnic group native to the Aurès region in northeastern Algeria. They call themselves Išawiyen/Icawiyen (pronounced [iʃawijən]) and speak the Shawiya language.
