Chinese Immigration Act, 1885

The Chinese Immigration Act, 1885 was an act of the Parliament of Canada that placed a head tax of $50 (equivalent to $1,828 in 2025) on all Chinese immigrants entering Canada. It was based on the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Chinese Immigration, which were published in 1885.
