Companion planting

Companion planting is the polycultural practice in horticulture and small-scale agriculture of co-planting different crops to provide a measure of weed suppression, pest control, and pollination; to attract beneficial insects; to maximize the use of space; and to increase crop productivity. Companion planting is used by farmers and gardeners in both industrialized and developing countries for many reasons.
