Article 6 of the 2015 Paris Agreement sets out how countries (“Parties”) may cooperate voluntarily to implement their nationally determined contributions (NDCs). It is intended to allow higher ambition in mitigation and adaptation while promoting sustainable development, and it conditions cooperation on environmental integrity, transparency and robust accounting, especially to avoid double counting of the same mitigation outcome across countries’ NDCs.
