Culebra, officially Isla de Culebra (Spanish pronunciation: [kuˈleβɾa], "Snake Island"), is a small archipelago and island organized as a municipality of Puerto Rico. Comprising the eponymous main island, the smaller island of Culebrita, and various cays, including Norte and Luis Peña, it is located about 17 miles (27 km) northeast of the main island of Puerto Rico, 12 miles (19 km) west of Saint Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 9 miles (14 km) northeast of Vieques, with which it composes the Spanish Virgin Islands.
