On 12 October 2022, Iranian teenager Asra Panahi (Persian: اسراء پناهی, born on 5 March 2007) was killed during the Mahsa Amini protests in the city of Ardabil. She was among a group of students at Shahed Girls High School who are reported to have refused to join a pro-government demonstration and perform the "Salam Farmandeh" song.
