On 18 August 1945, a Mitsubishi Ki-21 heavy bomber belonging to the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service crashed upon take off from Taihoku Airfield in Taihoku Prefecture, Japanese Taiwan, present day Songshan Airport in Taipei, Taiwan. Out of the 12 or 13 passengers on board, two passengers; Indian nationalist leader Subhas Chandra Bose and Japanese Lieutenant General Tsunamasa Shidei died in hospital in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
