Eiron

In the theatre of ancient Greece, the eirōn (Ancient Greek: εἴρων, “dissembler”) was one of various stock characters in comedy. The eirōn usually succeeded by bringing down his braggart opponent (the alazṓn "boaster") by understating his own abilities.
