Episcopal polity

An episcopal polity, also known as episcopalianism, is a hierarchical form of church governance in which the chief local authorities are called bishops. The word "bishop" here is derived via the Vulgar Latin term episcopus, from Ancient Greek ἐπίσκοπος (epískopos) 'overseer'.
