Exit tax

An expatriation tax or emigration tax, often simply called exit tax, is a tax on persons who cease to be tax-resident in a country. This often takes the form of capital gains tax against unrealized gains: assets are treated for tax purposes as being sold at market value upon departure (deemed disposal).
