In geometry, the folium of Descartes (from Latin folium 'leaf') is an algebraic curve defined by the implicit equation x 3 + y 3 − 3 a y x = 0 {\displaystyle x^{3}+y^{3}-3ayx=0} . It is named after the mathematician and philosopher René Descartes.
