On 13 November 1990, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Sir Geoffrey Howe delivered his resignation speech in the House of Commons after resigning on 1 November. While Howe initially worded carefully his resignation letter and criticism of the Prime Minister's overall handling of United Kingdom relations with the European Community, 10 Downing Street claimed that his disagreement with Thatcher on Europe were differences only in style, rather than substance.
