Geology of Florida

Florida is part of the Florida Platform, a plateau of sedimentary rocks of the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras sitting atop a basement of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks of Proterozoic, Paleozoic, and Triassic age. The Florida Platform also includes southern Alabama and Georgia and the continental shelf adjacent to the three states.
