Grandfather Ivan (Bulgarian: Дядо Иван) is a folklore image of Russia in the minds of Bulgarians from the times of the Bulgarian National Revival, portraying Russia as a benevolent, protective force. Ivan is a Slavic form of the biblical name Joan (John).
