Haloarchaea (halophilic archaea, halophilic archaebacteria, halobacteria) are a class of archaea under the phylum Euryarchaeota, found in water saturated or nearly saturated with salt. 'Halobacteria' are now recognized as archaea rather than bacteria and are one of the largest groups of archaea.
