Haredi conscription in Israel
Haredi conscription in Israel (Hebrew: גיוס חרדים לצה"ל) refers to the conscription of Haredi Israelis into the Israel Defense Forces, usually referring to yeshiva students in Israel. Since Israeli independence in 1948, most of the Haredi community remained exempt from military service under an arrangement based on the principle of Torato Umanuto, where Haredim who spend full time conducting Torah study would serve either a shortened service or exempted entirely.
