Hide (unit)

The hide (or mansa) is an archaic English unit of land measurement originally intended to represent the amount of land sufficient to support a household. The Anglo-Saxon hide commonly appears as 120 acres (49 hectares) of arable land, but it probably represented a much smaller holding before 1066.
