Hindu Widows' Remarriage Act, 1856
The Hindu Widows' Remarriage Act 1856 (Act XV of 1856), passed on 16 July 1856, legalised the remarriage of widows in all jurisdictions of India under East India Company rule. The act was enacted on 26 July 1856.
