History of Wisconsin

The history of Wisconsin includes stories of the many peoples who have lived in Wisconsin, starting with the Native American tribes, the French and British colonists who were the first Europeans to live there, and the American settlers who moved to Wisconsin when it was a territory before 1848. Since its admission to the Union on May 29, 1848, as the 30th state, Wisconsin has been ethnically heterogeneous, with Yankees being among the first to arrive from New York and New England.
