History of the Jews in Baltimore
The history of the Jews in Baltimore, Maryland, reaches back to the colonial era, and the city is home to one of the larger Jewish communities in the United States. A few Jewish traders were present in colonial Baltimore by the 1770s, but organized communal life began in the 1820s, after the Maryland "Jew Bill" extended to Jews the right to hold public office.
