Horse trams in Adelaide
Many private companies operated horse trams in Adelaide from 1878 until 1917 on routes that eventually ran for more than 100 kilometres within a 16 kilometres (10 miles) radius of the Adelaide General Post Office, as shown in the map in the infobox. The trams were extremely popular, since they were more comfortable than the horse-drawn jaunting cars, carriages and omnibuses that operated on the poorly formed roads of the time.
