= June 20 = == Rimsky-Korsakov question == The CD booklet of a recording of R-K's opera The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya tells me that "In addition to a number of quotations from his own works, Rimsky-Korsakov refers more or less directly in his Legend to all the music he had been concerned with in his career as a composer", and instances "the many folk melodies and hymn tunes, which he either deliberately transferred from the original source into his opera or wrote himself in the same manner." But what were those folksongs and hymns? If the Web has any answers then I can't find them, and a visit to my local university library only serves to show me that they don't teach Rimsky there.
