Indigenous peoples and the War of the Pacific
The Indigenous peoples in the countries involved in the War of the Pacific (1879–1884), Bolivia, Chile and Peru were variously impacted by direct warfare, mobilisation and taxation during the war. At the start of the war three quarters of the population of Peru lived in the Andean highlands where Indigenous peoples were in majority.
