Islam is the third-largest religion in Nepal after Hinduism and Buddhism, with 5.09% of the country’s population, approximately 1,483,066 (1.483 million) people, identifying as Muslims in the 2021 census. Most of Nepal's Muslims live in the Terai (lowland) region, particularly in the southern plains close to the border with India.
