July 2011 Midwest derecho

A destructive derecho event struck the states of Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio on July 11, 2011, and was the most damaging portion of a much larger derecho event known as The Cross Country Derecho of July 2011. It started on the morning of July 11, 2011, when a powerful long-lasting straight-line windstorm, known as a derecho, developed over central Iowa and carved a path of extensive damage across east central Iowa.
