Assin or Asen, was an Akan kingdom in what is now central Ghana. It rose during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries as the heart of the inland Akani mercantile organization, controlling major caravan routes between the Gold Coast ports and the auriferous regions in the Pra and Ofin basins.
