Kurtosis (from Greek: κυρτός (kyrtos or kurtos), meaning 'curved, arching') refers to the degree of tailedness in the probability distribution of a real-valued, random variable in probability theory and statistics. Similar to skewness, kurtosis provides insight into specific characteristics of a distribution.
