The latter is frequently mentioned by the matronymic Loki Laufeyjarson ('son of Laufey') in the Poetic Edda, rather than the expected traditional patronymic Loki Fárbautason ('son of Fárbauti'), in a mythology where kinship is usually reckoned through male ancestry.
