Liberation of Strasbourg
The liberation of Strasbourg took place on 23 November 1944 during the Alsace campaign (November 1944 – March 1945) in the last months of World War II. After the liberation of Mulhouse on 21 November 1944 by the 1st Armored Division, General Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque and the 2nd Armored Division entered the city of Strasbourg in France after having liberated Sarrebourg and La Petite-Pierre from Nazi Germany, clearing the way for the advance on Strasbourg. == Background == === Timeline === 6 June 1944: Allies land on Normandy coastline, beginning the liberation of mainland France.
