Lichen systematics
Lichen systematics is the study of how lichens are classified and related to each other, combining the naming of lichen taxa, the reconstruction of their evolutionary history, and the organization of this diversity into a coherent framework. In contrast to an individual fungus or plant, a lichen is not a single organism but a miniature ecosystem—a symbiotic partnership between a fungus (the mycobiont) and a photosynthetic partner (the photobiont, typically an alga or cyanobacterium).
