The Lions–Packers rivalry or Yooper Bowl is a National Football League (NFL) rivalry between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. They first met in 1929 when the Lions, originally based in Portsmouth, Ohio and known as the Portsmouth Spartans, were an independent team prior to joining the NFL the following season.
