New Zealand Army
The New Zealand Army (Māori: Ngāti Tūmatauenga, 'Tribe of the God of War') is the principal land warfare force of New Zealand, a component of the New Zealand Defence Force alongside the Royal New Zealand Navy and the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The Army traces its military tradition to militias first established in the 1840s, but its modern origins lie in the Armed Constabulary, created in 1867 to carry out both military and policing duties.
