List of central agencies in India

Official definitions of what constitutes an agency of the government of India are limited and varied. Article 12 of the India constitution defines "the State" as encompassing the central government, the Indian parliament, the state governments and their respective legislatures, as well as what are termed "local or other authorities." The interpretation of the term "other authorities" has been the subject of extensive judicial scrutiny by the Supreme Court.
