Ma'amad

Ma'amad or Mahamad (Hebrew: מעמד) is the Council of Elders (or "the board of directors") of the communities of Sephardi Jews (Spanish-Portuguese Jews) corresponding to qahal of the Ashkenazi Jews. Ma'amad was described as conservative and authoritarian.
