Medieval literature is a broad subject, encompassing essentially all written works available in Europe and beyond during the Middle Ages, from the earlier variety of late antique literature which saw a major evolution of literary styles following the period of classical antiquity, until the beginnings of the Renaissance. The literature of this time was composed of religious writings as well as secular works.
