Merindad

Merindad (Spanish pronunciation: [meɾinˈdað]) is a mediaeval Spanish administrative term for a country subdivision smaller than a province but larger than a municipality. The officer in charge of a merindad was called a merino, roughly equivalent to the English count or bailiff.
