Mexico–United Kingdom relations
The nations of Mexico and the United Kingdom formally established diplomatic relations in 1826. However, diplomatic relations were severed in 1861 after the president of Mexico Benito Juárez suspended payments on its foreign debt to the U.K. Diplomatic relations were re-established in 1864 when the U.K. recognized Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico.
