Military history of the Russian Federation

The military history of the Russian Federation began with the establishment of the Russian Armed Forces following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. This was followed by its engagements in post-Soviet conflicts, from the war in Transnistria that started in 1990, after which many reforms were put in place during the late 1990s and the 2000s.
